Featured Green Artist: Dona Bollard

Standard

As you may know from our previous posts, each artist in the 3rd Annual Downtown Frisco Green Art Fair must showcase at least one piece of artwork that is “green”.

Dona Bollard is one of our featured “green” artists for the art festival this weekend. Her artwork is framed in vintage windows and antique frames exclusively.  Infusing new life to these fantastic finds that are often times discarded and add another dimension to her images.

Dona is a photographer that chooses to focus on black and white photography that has dreamlike and ethereal qualities.  Her techniques date back to the late 1800’s ~ Platinum, Van Dyke and Cyanotype as well as traditional darkroom photography….. film ~ hand processed and printed!  Gelatin Silver Prints are all hand printed and toned in sepia toner for an archival result that gives luminous tones and qualities that is unmatched with other processes.

Standard

Howard Alan Events is proud to have Jerry Scavezze in the 3rd Annual Downtown Frisco Green Art Fair, which will be held in Frisco, Colorado this 4th of July Weekend (July 2-3, 2011).

Every year, we require the artists to showcase one piece of art created in an environmentally sound process.  The artist must incorporate either recycled or repurposed objects into their work.  The featured green artwork should serve to inspire and encourage environmentally friendly practices that will not only benefit the community but our ecosystem.

Jerry Scavezze is a very talented green jewelry designer! His jewelry is 100% made from recycled gold. It doesn’t contribute to new mining or any of the negative problems associated with mining.

What Does An On-Going Jury Mean?

Standard

Many artists may not understand why we don’t necessarily have a “deadline” for our shows. This is because we have an on-going jury.

What an on-going jury means is that we have a jury come in to our office around every two weeks to jury all of the applicants that have submitted their information within that time span (both via snail mail and on Zapp).

However, on Zapplication, we are required to have a “deadline”. So, all of our shows on Zapp have a “deadline” one week prior to the show. In many circumstances, artists can still apply the week of the show, but they must mail in an application via snail mail. Of course, check with us to see if your particular category/the show is still open.

An on-going jury also means that a category or show can fill-up at any time. This is why we encourage all of our artists to apply as soon as the applications are out!
