Selling Your Work At An Art Fair

Standard

In the past, we have written blogs about your booth displays and how important they are in attracting customers. Today, we want to talk to you about selling your work (after you attract the patrons in your booth).

Before we continue, make sure you take a look at our booth display requirements HERE along with examples of booth displays HERE.

Once you have attracted the customer into your booth, what do you do next? You need to engage with them! Greet them as the walk into your booth. If you see that a patron is looking at a particular piece of work for quite sometime, ask them if they need assistance. Perhaps tell them a little history about the piece!

Explaining your inspirations and techniques about your artwork to the patron will make the experience even more special. This approach will lead to a sale unlike the approach of just sitting in the back of your booth.

Selling is the art of providing the information someone needs to make an informed purchase decision. So, don’t be afraid to sell your work to the customers who are in your booth!

Happy Customers

What selling techniques have worked for you? Please share with us!

We know that it is a little over a month away from the 3rd Annual Downtown Venice Labor Day Weekend Craft Festival in Venice, FL on September 3rd & 4th, 2011.

Currently, we know our crafters are busy creating & re-stocking their inventory for a busy Fall season.

We wanted to give you some general information about the show, so you can mark your calendars! The show will be held in Downtown Venice on 220 Miami Ave W., Venice, FL 34285. Show times are Saturday & Sunday 10am-5pm. Admission is free and open to the public.

Here is one jewelry artist you can expect to see at the show:

Maria Hormaza has been designing and making jewellery for four years. She started with regular stringing beads before before branching out into the ancient techniques. The ancient techniques that she uses are: Kumihimo, a Japanese braiding techinque which dates to about 550 C.E and Viking Weaving from the 8th Century. Viking weaving was found in archeological sites in Denmark, Norway and Northern Ireland. You can see more of her precious work HERE.

An Artist Who Knows How To Market Himself: Ron Leep

Standard

We wanted to share with you Ron Leep, who impressed us with his marketing skills. When Ron Leep arrived at the 9th Annual Downtown Aspen Art Festival this weekend, he brought more than his artwork. He brought along materials to market himself and his masterpieces.

Ron had post cards made that included his contact information along with his upcoming shows. Most importantly, everything was up-to-date!

Take a look below:

(The originals were in color.)

This type of marketing is a little more effective than the business card, because it allows the patrons to know where you will be next. Perhaps a patron needs time to “think about” an expensive piece of artwork. Knowing any future art festival you will be participating in, may attract customers who have seen your work in previous shows!

Additionally, Ron mails out these cards to all of his customers before an event!

Kudos to Ron Leep!

We have also seen artists who send out email reminders to their mailing lists, as well. These are all great ways of attracting new and old customers at an art festival.

What has been most effective for you? Share with us!

Pietra & David Wall : Exceptional Utah Artists

Standard

Howard Alan Events is proud to have Pietra & David Wall exhibit in the 2nd Annual Redstone Art Fair this weekend (July 30th & 31st) in Park City, Utah.

Pietra was born and raised in Italy where she naturally developed a love of art.  Since she was a young girl the American West has fascinated her. Her dream to live in the West came true in 1982 when she married David and made Utah her home. David is a native of Utah and grew up camping, hiking and enjoying the outdoors. Their different backgrounds and cultures have played an important role in the development of their artwork. They compliment each other and play off of each other’s strength. Pietra is more “right-brained” and abstract; David is more “left-brained” and concrete. Together their talents combine to create art that is both unique and aesthetic. Their art reflects how well they work together. Pietra likes to say, “The best part of our work is that not only do we enjoy doing it, but we love doing it together.”

During years of experimenting with leather and its many properties, they have developed techniques that have given their work a very distinctive look. By using these skills together with traditional techniques they combine leather with other natural elements such as stone, copper, shells and wood to create earthy contemporary pieces.

Here are some beautiful examples of their work:
