Don’t Just Make A Sale, Build a Relationship

Standard

Each week, we receive phone calls from past patrons looking to connect with an artist that they saw at a show in an effort to purchase work from them. The impact each one of you makes on the visitors you interact with each weekend at a show is truly incredible.

This got us thinking…are you maximizing the time you spend with potential customers at shows? We wanted to share a few ideas for maximizing your face time with potential customers and garnering a loyal customer base.

Contact Information

  • Do you attach your business card to each bill or receipt?
    • Putting your contact information on multiple places increases the chance that your customer will keep it.

Advertising

  • Are you tooting your own horn enough?
    • Passing out fliers that list your upcoming shows is a great way to garner repeat business.
    • Make sure your fliers are on brightly colored paper or include an eye-catching design to ensure it doesn’t end up discarded.

Sales

  • Are you spending time getting to know your customers and forming relationships with them?
    • Asking your prospective customers specific questions is a great way to start a conversation that can lead to a sale.
    • Be approachable and friendly, customers want to buy from people they feel a connection to and trust.

Social Media (It isn’t a dirty word)

  • Are you communicating with your customers electronically?
    • An email list is a free and easy way to communicate with a large number of people in a quick manner.
    • Have you considered a facebook or twitter page to update your customers on show dates and showcase new work?

Nurture your relationships

  • Stay in touch with your customers, call them to follow up and see how your piece is doing. A follow up phone call to eventually lead to the sale of another piece.
    • Business cards can be easily misplaced, but by you taking the first step in continuing the conversation, you will be fresh in your customers’ minds.

Don’t be a stranger

  • Have you updated your contact information with Howard Alan Events and American Craft Endeavors?
    • Making sure we have your business phone, website, email, and mailing address is crucial in case a patron contacts us in search of you and your work.

We hope some of these tips can help you increase your customer base and help you create long lasting relationships with patrons at all of your future shows.

Happy Customers

American Craft Endeavors is proud to present the 17th Annual Downtown Delray Beach Craft Festival in Delray Beach, Florida on October 1st & 2nd, 2011 (this weekend).

We are excited to be returning on October 1 – 2, 2011 featuring the work of the country’s leading crafters. A full spectrum of craft art mediums will be on display and for sale with prices ranging from as little as $3 to $3,000. Festival goers can expect to see folk art, pottery, handmade jewelry, wall hangings, ceramics and paintings, to personalized gifts, handmade clothing, scented soaps and body products; all items have been handcrafted in America.

Admission is free and open to the public. Times are Saturday & Sunday 10am-5pm. The navigational address is: 330 E Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33483.

Here are a few of the fine crafters you will be able to meet at this weekend’s show:

Donna Bonavia: Paintings

First, we would like to introduce to you Donna Bonavia. Donna desires her paintings to be realistic but with a “painter’s touch”. It is her goal to capture the personality and character of your pet or loved one, but with the vibrancy and mood only an artist’s brush can create in a painting. Her extraordinary paintings bring a unique sense of color and feel to the image that goes beyond what can be capture by a camera. She is available to do portraits of your loved ones and pets, and you can talk to her more about it at the festival this weekend. Until then, see some of her work HERE.

Trevor Nicholson: Glass Bugs

Next, we have Trevor Nicholson. Trevor creates a delightful range of hand-crafted items that catch the light and bring color & sparkle into your home. His most popular items are the glass bugs, which attach to the screen mesh of your doors. If you would like to learn more about Trevor and his unique items, click HERE.

Silvia Levy-Andio: Hand-crafted Cards

The final crafter we are going to introduce to you today is Silvia Levy-Andio. Silvia hand-makes the most beautiful cards that are perfect for any occasion. Her imaginative detailed metal accents adorn the captivating greeting cards and double as wearable jewelry. These charming art pieces can be worn as a pin or pendant. You can see more of her intricately detailed cards HERE.

You will be able to meet all the fine crafters mentioned above along with 100 other talented fine crafters from across the country.

Display Information : Pedestals

Standard

We enjoy writing posts that can help you improve your display. HAE wants you to be the most successful artist that you can be. Other than having incredible talent to produce artwork, you need to have a great display.

The reasons?

#1 – A great display is needed for the jurying process. This is because your juried score is based on your artwork AND your booth display.

#2 – Before your artwork, the patron will notice your booth display first! You need to make it inviting.

We receive many questions daily about how to improve booth displays. We have very helpful information on our website HERE. However, a big concern for many of our artists is where to find certain parts of a display (ie. pedestals).

We found a very resourceful website of where you can purchase pedestals – Click HERE.

Why are pedestals useful in your display?

#1 – They are perfect for jewelry displays: they create depth and a “gallery-like” feel.

#2 – Pedestals are a necessity for a “flexible” space. We have many artists who set-up their sculptures and glass figures on pedestals.
