Standard

American Craft Endeavors is proud to present the 17th Annual Downtown Delray Beach Craft Festival in Delray Beach, Florida on October 1st & 2nd, 2011 (this weekend).

We are excited to be returning on October 1 – 2, 2011 featuring the work of the country’s leading crafters. A full spectrum of craft art mediums will be on display and for sale with prices ranging from as little as $3 to $3,000. Festival goers can expect to see folk art, pottery, handmade jewelry, wall hangings, ceramics and paintings, to personalized gifts, handmade clothing, scented soaps and body products; all items have been handcrafted in America.

Admission is free and open to the public. Times are Saturday & Sunday 10am-5pm. The navigational address is: 330 E Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33483.

Here are a few of the fine crafters you will be able to meet at this weekend’s show:

Donna Bonavia: Paintings

First, we would like to introduce to you Donna Bonavia. Donna desires her paintings to be realistic but with a “painter’s touch”. It is her goal to capture the personality and character of your pet or loved one, but with the vibrancy and mood only an artist’s brush can create in a painting. Her extraordinary paintings bring a unique sense of color and feel to the image that goes beyond what can be capture by a camera. She is available to do portraits of your loved ones and pets, and you can talk to her more about it at the festival this weekend. Until then, see some of her work HERE.

Trevor Nicholson: Glass Bugs

Next, we have Trevor Nicholson. Trevor creates a delightful range of hand-crafted items that catch the light and bring color & sparkle into your home. His most popular items are the glass bugs, which attach to the screen mesh of your doors. If you would like to learn more about Trevor and his unique items, click HERE.

Silvia Levy-Andio: Hand-crafted Cards

The final crafter we are going to introduce to you today is Silvia Levy-Andio. Silvia hand-makes the most beautiful cards that are perfect for any occasion. Her imaginative detailed metal accents adorn the captivating greeting cards and double as wearable jewelry. These charming art pieces can be worn as a pin or pendant. You can see more of her intricately detailed cards HERE.

You will be able to meet all the fine crafters mentioned above along with 100 other talented fine crafters from across the country.

Display Information : Pedestals

Standard

We enjoy writing posts that can help you improve your display. HAE wants you to be the most successful artist that you can be. Other than having incredible talent to produce artwork, you need to have a great display.

The reasons?

#1 – A great display is needed for the jurying process. This is because your juried score is based on your artwork AND your booth display.

#2 – Before your artwork, the patron will notice your booth display first! You need to make it inviting.

We receive many questions daily about how to improve booth displays. We have very helpful information on our website HERE. However, a big concern for many of our artists is where to find certain parts of a display (ie. pedestals).

We found a very resourceful website of where you can purchase pedestals – Click HERE.

Why are pedestals useful in your display?

#1 – They are perfect for jewelry displays: they create depth and a “gallery-like” feel.

#2 – Pedestals are a necessity for a “flexible” space. We have many artists who set-up their sculptures and glass figures on pedestals.

How Do You Prepare For An Art Festival?

Standard

We understand this can be a broad blog post. However, what do you do to prepare for an art festival? We want to hear YOUR comments.

(1) Perhaps you have a certain way of packing – What is it?

(2) We know you have a LONG list of everything you need to pack – What are the essentials?

(3) You may have to create a certain number of pieces before you can hit the road – How many do you need to make?

(4) Creating hand-made beautiful artwork takes time – How many hours do you put into your work that you take to shows?

(5) It’s a necessity to let your clients know where you will be next – How do you inform them?

We would LOVE to hear all your responses. Then, we will take what you write to us & create a blog post with the information. Please feel free to include anything else that you would want to add about how you prepare!

Lee Murrell: Featured Crafter at Downtown Stuart Craft Festival

Standard

Lee Murrell will be one of our talented crafters at the 12th Annual Downtown Stuart Craft Festival this weekend (September 24th & 25th, 2011).

Lee has created his easily recognized copper sculpture known as “Copper Creations” since 1970. His work has been shown and won many awards in Arts and Crafts shows in the Southeast, Northeast and Midwest.

Copper, a lasting and versatile metal, fired porcelain enamels and touches of brass are used to interpret his original designs. Almost any color is available on order. Because all of the stems and branches are heavy copper wire you can gently work them into the shape you like. A rinse in warm water, soapy if needed, will quickly refresh any “Copper Creation.”

Here are a few examples of his work:

Artist Spotlight: Paul McClain

Standard

Paul McClain, who is from Mansfield, Ohio, is one of our exhibitors in the 2nd Annual Art In The Village Part II. The art festival will be held this weekend (September 24th & 25th, 2011) in Cleveland, Ohio at Legacy Village.

Paul began to draw and paint at the age of two and has never stopped! His original inspiration came from his first museum visit (age two), and later his love of nature and solitude. He likes to use natural colors with very little enhancement, because nature provides an overwhelming array of colors. Over the years, his art has evolved to include architecture, people, and man-made objects in natural surroundings. These elements provide great opportunity for the use of perspective, adding strength, and drama to his paintings.

He likes to paint landscapes that reinforce lines of visual direction, by making clouds that move rhythmically, or using the shapes of distant trees and hills to mimic perspective. He looks for settings, or motifs that have these strengths naturally.

Here are a few examples of Paul’s beautiful work:
