Boys & Girls Club of Martin County Get Help From Three Howard Alan Artists

Standard

Three local artists will be guiding a group of thirty children at the Boys & Girls Club of Martin County on an artistic journey designed to promote expression through art. According to Americans for the Arts, art education helps the children develop many important life skills, such as goal-setting, critical thinking, problem solving, self-confidence and self-discipline.  To read more about the Benefits of Arts Education, click here :

The celebrated local artists teaching the children are Dan Mackin, Mimi McCallum and Cindy Cooper.

They will work with 10 to 12 year olds Tuesday, January 31st, sharing their passion and techniques throughout the creative process.  This rare opportunity allows the children to meet and work with professional artists.  The completed works of art will be on display this weekend during the Festival.

All three artists are participating in the upcoming 11th Annual Hobe Sound Festival of the Arts so stop by to visit and talk to them about their experience with the children.  The artists will be at the festival Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 5 pm.

Dan Mackin of Hobe Sound has been painting for over 30 years.  He started painting after he lost his camera overboard on a sailboat trip and started sketching and painting the tropical islands instead.  He has done commissions for many different organizations and art patrons.  He designed the label for Shoal Draft, a microbrew made by the Indian River Brewing Company.  The tropical images have also appeared on magazine covers, calendars, jewelry, stationery and more.  He collaborated with Beach Boy Brian Wilson on a series of Giclées on canvas. The images are interpretations of “Surfing USA,” “Surfer Girl,” “In My Room,” and “God Only Knows” .

Mimi McCallum has lived in Florida for over 30 years, she retired from teaching and now focuses on making her own art. Her medium is oil painting and she likes to use strong primary colors.

“Through my art I aspire to capture moments in time that relate to memories that touch our hearts.  I aspire to create images of objects, places and figures with pleasing shapes and energetic color.”  Mimi McCallum

Cynthia Cooper is an artist and also owner of The Framery in Hobe Sound, the premier frame shop and gallery.

She has experience in restorative work as well as acid etchings.  Her current work involves creating textures with silk screning and incorporating natural materials and mixed media on canvas.  Her art is influenced by her international travels to such exotic locations such as South Asia, South Africa and Australia.
