Featured Artist: Douglas Wodark

Standard

Howard Alan Events is excited to present to you Douglas Wodark, who will be exhibiting in the 24th Annual Beaver Creek Art Festival in Vail, Colorado this weekend!

Douglas Wodark has two passions in life- his family and his art. His fascination with art and its impact on his life are evidenced by his unique and powerful body of work. Intent on capturing the exact shade of color and nuance of figure, Douglas loses himself in his painting, often working through the night in order to bring his art to life.

Douglas’ paintings speak strongly for themselves. An often haunting soulfulness abides in his work along with a moving sense of peace. His pieces are undeniably powerful and creative works of art that make themselves felt wherever they are shown. A list of galleries is available by clicking the Current Galleries link on the toolbar.

Douglas currently lives in Castle Rock, Colorado with his wife, Heidi, and their two children, Zane and Zia. He has been fortunate enough to realize his dream of having a successful career as an artist. His work can be found at various galleries throughout the Southwest. Occasionally, Douglas will do commissioned work.

Teresa Haun: One-Of-A-Kind Artist in Beaver Creek

Standard

Howard Alan Events is proud to have Teresa Haun as one of our exhibiting artists in the 24th Annual Beaver Creek Art Festival this weekend (August 6-7, 2011).

Teresa hand-makes beautiful leather journals. To make them, she cuts and works several different tans of leather, creates and prepares distinctive, decorative, archival, handmade papers, and binds the two together with six-ply parachute tack cord to craft durable and everlasting books for everyone to enjoy, in current and many future generations to come. The handmade paper is acid-free and archival to protect the life of everything put on and in between them.

He work is unique and unlike anything else you will ever see at an Art Festival. Take a look at some examples of her work below:

Oh, Doodleysquat!

Standard

"Dilemma"

Look what we found at the 23rd Annual Beaver Creek Art Festival this past weekend. As soon as we saw this, we just had to know more about it! Luckily the artists, Paul Hawkins and Susan Zalkind, were able to fill us in!

The creature that you see above is called “Dilemma”. Dilemma is one of the Great Horned Doodleysquats. He stands almost 4′ high x 18″ wide x 3′ deep. It is carved from rare colored red and green Alabasters, Desert woods and inlaid with an array of gemstones.

"Dilemma"

The Doodleysquats are contemporary American ‘house gods and goddesses’. If you put them in the center of your home they’ll keep away all you need kept off (for example: evil neighbors, tax collectors). The Doodleysquats are also becoming extinct species of individual expression.

Have you ever seen anything like it? We sure haven’t! If you would like to check-out Susan Zalkind and Paul Hawkins’ website, you can click HERE.

Questions, Comments, Concerns? We would love to know! Comment below or join us on Facebook and Twitter.

Don’t forget that the 4th Annual Main Street to the Rockies Art Festival in Frisco, Colorado is THIS weekend (August 7-8)!!

Stay Connected with Beaver Creek Throughout the Weekend!

Picture from the Beaver Creek Webcam

Are you unable to make it to the 23rd Annual Beaver Creek Art Festival this weekend (July 31 – August 1)? We have some good news for you! As long as you are near a computer, you can have access to the art festival. The website, BeaverCreek.com, has a webcam that updates every 5 minutes. If you would like to see the webcam, you can click on the “BeaverCreek.com” link in the previous sentence. One of the locations of the webcam captures the Family Ice Arena. The picture above shows some artists setting up. Throughout the weekend, you will be able to see crowds of people and the artists at their booths!

I have one more thing I would like to share with you. You can feel a little more a part of Beaver Creek if you watch and see what some of the artists have to offer. Today, on Channel 8 during Good Morning Vail, there were interviews of 5 different artists who are participating in the Beaver Creek Art Festival.  Each artist is very talented and brings something unique to Beaver Creek this weekend.

You should definitely watch these interviews to learn a little more about each artist (whether you are attending or not attending Beaver Creek)! You can watch them here:

Interview with our Show Coordinator, Helayne.

Interview with Diana Lienemann.

Interview with Darren Kensington.

Interview with Tim Zandee.

Interview with Benjamin Stielow & Kevin Muggleton.

I hope this information was helpful in making you feel like you are at the show. I know it’s not the same as actually being present at the art festival, but at least you can know what’s happening at Beaver Creek. And if you are attending the Beaver Creek Art Festival this weekend, I hope I helped you learn how to gain more access.

Have a wonderful weekend!!
