Tips For Enjoying Outdoor Art Events

Standard

For our last blog of the week, we wanted to leave you with these tips for enjoying an outdoor Art or Craft Festival. These tips will be very useful if you plan on going to the 23rd Annual Art Fest by the Sea in Jupiter, Florida or the 15th Annual Lauderdale by the Sea Craft Festival in Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida this weekend.

(1) Juried fine art festivals offer a high caliber of fine art ranging from paintings to pottery to sculpture to photography to jewelry. Artists exhibiting in these shows have often won numerous national and international art awards and exhibit in some of the world’s most prestigious galleries.

(2) Wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

(3) Shows get crowded. To avoid heavy traffic, go early in the day, or late in the afternoon. Saturdays are usually less crowded than Sundays.

(4) Feel free to ask questions. Visiting an art festival is similar to visiting 250 individual art galleries, and you’ll have the chance to meet each artist in person.

(5) Many artists will accept commission work or create a unique painting, sculpture or other art objects just for you!

(6) The main advantage advantage to buying artwork at an art festival is that you are working directly with the artist (with no gallery commissions or overhead fees factored in).

(7) If you see an artist whose work you like, but you don’t have the funds to buy a piece now, ask him or her for a list of upcoming shows. You could also get a business card or brochure. Most artists have them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Standard

We are asked many questions daily about our art festivals, which is why we created a list of these questions with thorough answers. They are very helpful!

1. When is the deadline for your shows?

We do not have deadlines for most of our shows. If an event does have a deadline, it will be clearly posted. Shows will close, however, when we reached a maximum number of artists for the space we have available.

2. What do I need to submit to be in one of your shows?

3. What if I don’t have an outdoor display picture?

You must submit an outdoor display picture in order for your application to be processed. It is required! Also, it must be consistent with the booth you have at the shows. Remember, your display is just as important as your work!

4. How do I know if my work is fine art or craft?

If you are unsure what category your work falls under, you can send in your photos/slides to be reviewed. Please include: a letter explaining you are unsure about the category of your work, a biography & a self-addressed envelope to return your images.

5. How does the wait list work?

When you apply for a show that is already closed, you have the option of applying for wait list. On the application, you can check “wait list”.

6. When will I hear about shows that I am wait listed for?

Most likely, you will not know until the week of the show. We suggest that if you are on the wait list, to contact at us the beginning of the week prior to the show.

How To Make Your Booth Display Look More Professional

Standard

Besides an artist’s artwork, the booth display is an important necessity when an artist is an exhibitor at an art festival. When artists’ apply to our shows, some have made the mistake of submitting the picture of their booth with tables in it.

Tables in a booth display are something we do not accept, and this is why:

Tables reduce the quality of the work in the eye of the customer. It also brings down the quality of the booth. We want to help you attract more customers!

Instead we recommend artists to use these in their booth displays:

1. Shelving

2. Pedestals

3. Stands

4. Walls

Here are some great examples of booth displays:

Jewelry Booth Display

Painting Booth Display

3-D Art Booth Display

These are both TERRIFIC outdoor booth displays! You can read more about our “booth display requirements” if you click HERE. Also, you can view more incredible booth displays if you click HERE.
